Syosset Teen Performs at Carnegie Hall, Earns Musical Excellence Award

A 17-year-old Syosset resident recently performed at Carnegie Hall after receiving a Certificate of Excellence for scoring top marks in The Royal Conservatory Music Development Program.
Derrick Choi was among the top scorers in a program that recognizes the best student musicians across the country.
Music Development Program students achieved top marks in their respective state. Choi earned the top mark in New York on the Level 4 Violin assessment.

His accomplishment helped him receive recognition and a chance to perform at a recital and awards ceremony on Feb. 20 at Carnegie Hall.
To become a Certificate of Excellence recipient, students must score at least 80 percent on the examination and must have completed the co-requisite theory requirements for their respective level and discipline.
