With Tough Loss, Syosset Soccer Team Loses National Ranking

The Braves entered the season unranked, but a scorching start catapulted them to No. 11 in the national rankings.

SYOSSET, NY — The Syosset high school girls soccer team that made national noise by rattling off eight straight wins to start the season are no longer nationally ranked following a tough loss to Massapequa. The Braves entered the season unranked in the USA Today/United Soccer Coaches Super 25 preseason poll, but the scorching start catapulted the team to No. 11 in the country in the sixth week of the season.

The road to undefeated went through a tough Massapequa (10-1) team though, who earlier in the year had given the Syosset girls a run for their money. On Oct. 11, the Braves lost 0-1 in what turned into a defensive battle.

With the loss, the Smithtown West (9-0-1 ) girls team is the sole Long Island team to be nationally ranked, coming in at No. 11 in the seventh week of the season.
