The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has reviewed the Remedial Investigation (RI) Report for a Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) site known as the Syosset Park Lots 251 & 252 Site, site ID #C130002. This site is located on Robbins Lane, Syosset, in Nassau County. While the site does not pose a significant threat to public health or the environment, the RI Report indicates that cleanup is necessary to satisfy the requirements of the Brownfield Cleanup Program.

DEC has also recently finalized the Radiological and Emerging Contaminant Sampling Summary and Assessment for a Class 4 Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Site known as the Syosset Landfill, site ID #130011. This site is located on Miller Place, Town of Syosset, Nassau County. A Class 4 Site means that the former active landfill has been properly closed, requires continued management (e.g., cover maintenance), and no longer poses a significant threat to public health or the environment. Results from the study show:
* radium was detected in groundwater at levels consistent with naturally occurring concentrations observed elsewhere on Long Island;
* records do not indicate radium waste was disposed of at the landfill;
* emerging contaminants (i.e., PFAS) were detected in groundwater slightly above the States proposed Maximum Contaminant Levels for drinking water;
* the areas water is supplied by a public water system not impacted by the site; and
* area residents are not exposed to landfill groundwater.
Access to the Summary Report and other relevant documents is available online through the DECinfo Locator: https://www.dec.ny.gov/data/DecDocs/130011/.
