Dad Drives Drunk W/ 6-Year-Old Son In Car In Suffolk: Police

An officer saw the man make an illegal left turn, and police say the driver was intoxicated. The father was charged with DWI.

SELDEN, NY — A man was arrested Sunday morning in Selden after Suffolk police say he drove drunken with his 6-year-old son in the car.

Marcellus David, 37, of Wyandanch, was driving a 2003 Nissan Frontier when he made an illegal left turn while heading east on Middle County Road at 1:25 a.m., and he was stopped by a Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement officer, police said. The officer determined David was drunk and saw a child passenger in the car, police said. David was arrested, and the boy was released to the custody of a family member.

David was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15-years-old or younger (Leandra's Law) and endangering the welfare of a child. He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and scheduled for Sunday arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip.
