James P. Connolly, Army Veteran, Dies at 90

Connolly was a resident of Stony Brook and Sag Harbor.

James Patrick Connolly, a decorated World War II veteran who lived in Stony Brook and Sag Harbor, died July 2 at the age of 90.

Connolly enlisted in the Army in 1942, and fought in central Europe, Northern France, Normandy, and the Rhineland. When he was honorably discharged as a staff sargent in 1945, he had earned service awards including The American Service Medal, Eame Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

In his career, he did print modeling – and would sometimes be compared to Clark Gable, according to his Bryant Funeral Home obituary. He also worked for The New York Times Corporation for 25 years in the classified department, and volunteered his time at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson.

Viewing will be at in East Setauket on July 6 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a Mass and burial at in East Setauket.
