He was arrested and charged with DWI under Leandra's Law, police say.
SELDEN, NY — A man was arrested and charged Thursday night in Selden after police say he drove drunk with a teenager in the car.
An officer saw a 2014 Honda Civic, driven by Jared Banfield, 35, of Selden, blow a stop sign and then stopped the car at the intersection of Riviera Drive and Belair Road around 9 p.m., police said. As the officer walked up to the Honda, he saw a 15-year-old boy in the front passenger seat, police said. Banfield was arrested and the teen was released to the custody of his mother at the scene, police said.
Banfield was charged with aggravated DWI with a child passenger 15 years old or younger (Leandra's Law) and endangering the welfare of a child. He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled for Friday arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip.
