Police ID Man Killed In Suffolk Hit-And-Run

Police have released a description of a vehicle that may have struck the man Sunday morning.

STONY BROOK, NY — A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Stony Brook on Sunday, Suffolk police said.

Ronald Destefano, 54, of Lake Grove, was crossing Route 347 from south to north at Hallock Road when he was struck by a westbound vehicle, police said. The driver drove off, police said. A passing motorist who saw Destefano's body in the roadway called 911 at 7:05 a.m., police said.

Destefano was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe a silver vehicle, which sustained front and/or passenger-side damage, may have been involved in the crash.
