March Coming In Like A Lion On Long Island

LONG ISLAND, NY — Wind gusts up to 50 mph could uproot trees and cause power outages later Monday into Tuesday on Long Island, according to the National Weather Service.

A wind advisory will be in effect from 4 p.m. Monday until 10 a.m. Tuesday. The strongest gusts are expected Monday evening through shortly after midnight.

"Due to snow melt and recent rainfall, some tree root systems may be somewhat compromised potentially leading to some uprooted trees," the wind advisory states.

Speaking of snow, there's no sign of it anywhere in the extended forecast. Monday is the first day of meteorological spring.

The weather service advised people to use caution while driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle, and secure outdoor objects.

Monday- Rain likely, mainly before noon. Patchy fog before noon. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 49. Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Monday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 19. Wind chill values between 5 and 15. Blustery, with a northwest wind 13 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 47 mph.

Tuesday- Sunny, with a high near 34. Wind chill values between 5 and 15. Breezy, with a northwest wind 17 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph.

Tuesday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 28. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph.

Wednesday- Sunny, with a high near 47. Southwest wind 5 to 11 mph.

Wednesday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 30.

Thursday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 43.

Thursday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 23.

Friday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 36.

Friday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 24.
