Pedestrian Killed While Crossing Road In Centereach Car Crash: PD

A driver was changing lanes when she hit another woman Saturday evening, police say.

CENTEREACH, NY — A pedestrian was killed Saturday evening in Centereach, the Suffolk County Police Department said. Detectives are investigating.

Christine Chellis, 35, of Centereach, was driving a Chevrolet Suburban westbound on Route 25, west of Wood Road, and was changing from the right lane to the left lane when she hit a woman crossing the street at 6:24 p.m., police said.

The pedestrian, Laura Godek, 57, of Centereach, was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Chellis was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
