Remnants Of Tropical Storm Cindy Headed For Long Island

The remnants of a tropical storm may bring thunderstorms and heavy rain to the island.

Let's start with the good news first: Sunday should be a downright gorgeous Long Island summer day with a high near 80 under sunny skies.

On the not-so-good news front, we will be dealing with the remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy at the start of the weekend. Cindy weakened to a tropical depression after making landfall along the Gulf Coast early Thursday. Tropical moisture will interact with a cold front and move through the mid-Atlantic and Northeast Friday night and the first half of Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorms packing heavy rain are possible on Long Island during the day Friday with the odds of storms rising overnight into Saturday. A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for Nassau County, where the NWS says "stronger thunderstorms on Friday have potential to produce isolated damaging wind gusts."
