Snow in Long Island Forecast

Winter is arriving a couple weeks early. Snow and frigid temperatures are coming our way. We've got the latest Long Island forecast.

Those pleasantly warm fall days on Long Island are about to become a distant memory. Temperatures are set to plunge, and snow is likely on its way at the end of the weekend, the weather experts say.

The National Weather Service is leaving us in suspense for the moment with regard to any potential amounts, but forecasters say snow will be likely from about 10 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday. That snow is then expected to change over to rain and continue into Monday afternoon.

But let's not rush through the weekend. The rest of Thursday will be quite nice, with partly sunny skies and a high near 48 degrees. But as a cold front crosses the area, it will usher in much colder temperatures and breezy conditions for Thursday night and Friday, the National Weather Service says.

You may cry some frozen tears when you go out to start the car Friday morning as the wind chill will drop the "feels like" temperature to about 20 degrees by sunrise. There's also a slight chance of snow showers between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., the NWS says.
