Stony Brook Soccer aims for State titles

Teams will travel North this weekend in an effort to capture club's first ENY Cup for over a decade

Stony Brook Soccer Club will again have teams making the pilgrimage north to play in the Eastern New York State Cup Championships this weekend at LaGrangeville. The Boys U13 Stony Brook Red Star team coached by former Tampa college player Dan Balzan & GU16 Stony Brook Crew, coached by club Director of Coaching, will be taking their teams to face FC Select & Farmingdale Stars respectively.

Both teams made the finals last year but left empty handed after defeats by Cedar Stars Academy & Levittown so are hoping to go one better this year and get the opportunity to play in the Regional Finals that take place in West Virginia in July. The Red Star team had to negotiate through HBC, FC Select and Eastern FC to get through to the final. The teams clashed earlier in the competition, and that went the way of FC Select 1-0, however with the new format, Red Star got a second bite of the cherry and had to overcome Eastern FC to book their place in the final. Ryan Flockhart the scorer of the lone goal in that game that got them through.

Stony Brook Crew, were given a bye to the semi-final based on last season's performance's and overcome a good Surf team to power through to the final. Agostino getting a hat-trick and Marquardt with the other goal that sealed their passage in.

Director of Coaching Mark Nash stated "It's great to see both teams back in the final and hopefully the experience of last season will give our teams an added determination to get the right result this time, however we are facing two excellent sides and we will have to be at our best to compete and if we do that we certainly have a chance".

The games this weekend will see Red Star kick-off at 11am on Saturday, with Crew starting their match at 11.15am on Sunday.
