Stony Brook Softball Player Named America East Rookie Of The Week

It marks Kyra McFarland's third America East Rookie of the Week award.

STONY BROOK, NY — Kyra McFarland, a freshman second baseman for the Stony Brook University Seawolves softball team, was named the America East Rookie of the Week, the university's athletics department announced Tuesday.

It marked McFarland's third time receiving the division's honor.

McFarland went 2 for 4 with an RBI on April 14 in the Seawolves victory against Seton Hall in South Orange, New Jersey. She singled up the middle to allow Alina Lance to score the team's second run in Dawn Bodrug's one-hit shutout.

McFarland went 1 for 4 in the team's most recent game — a 2-0 win over St. John's on Tuesday.

McFarland hails from Greeley, Colorado. She is currently hitting .290 with 12 runs scored and 4 RBIs in 22 games played. She started 19 of those games. McFarland has also stolen four bases on four attempts.

The Seawolves are 19-8, including 5-0 within their conference. They are scheduled to play three games in Maine between Saturday and Sunday. The team is first place in the America East standings, which features Stony Brook, Maine, UMass Lowell, UMBC, UAlbany, Hartford and Binghamton.
