Strong Storms May Pound Long Island Again

A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for the island. See the hour-by-hour forecast.

A day after wild thunderstorms knocked out power to more than 10,000, triggered numerous fires on Long Island and left three men seriously injured after being struck by lightning in Queens, more powerful storms may be on the way.

"Thunderstorms may impact the area late today and tonight," the National Weather Service said in a hazardous weather outlook issues for the island. "There is a low potential that the strongest storms could produce flooding rainfall and damaging winds."

Here's what Joe Cioffi, a meteorologist for WPIX-TV and FiOS1 News, said in a post on his website: "The set up this afternoon and evening is similar to the set up we had yesterday though that doesn’t necessarily mean the outcome will be the same or that the thunderstorms will once again occur in the same places. Just remember that the risk is there this evening so keep an eye to the sky for threatening weather."
