Three Village School District Voters Reject $223 Million Budget
The budget was rejected 3,211 to 2,027, and the district now goes to a contingency spending plan.
THREE VILLAGE, NY — Voters in the Three Village School District rejected a $223 million spending plan that was placed up for a vote a second time on Tuesday, according to district spokeswoman.
The budget was rejected with 3,211 votes against and 2,027 in favor.
The district's proposed spending plan came in with a 1.75% increase in spending, as well as a 1.85% tax hike exceeding the state's tax cap and requiring a 60% majority of votes to pass, Newsday reported.

Because the budget was rejected again, the district will now have to operate on a contingency plan. This means that district officials would have to slash spending by about $2.4 million, which would result in increased class sizes and reductions of elective courses, though school officials said it would be minimal, the outlet previously reported.
