Three Village School Voters To Decide $223 Million Budget Tuesday

The school district is one of four where the budget failed last month. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Ward Melville HS.

THREE VILLAGE, NY — Three Village School District voters are heading to the polls Tuesday to weigh in on a $223 million spending plan for a second time.

The district’s proposed spending plan still comes in with a 1.75% increase in spending, as well as 1.85% tax hike, which exceeds the state’s tax cap, requiring a 60% majority of votes to pass, Newsday reported.

If the budget is rejected again, the district would have to operate on a contingency plan and slash spending by about $2.4 million, resulting in increased class sizes and reductions of elective courses, though school officials said it would be minimal, the outlet reported.
