Thunderstorm Chances on 7 Straight Days For Long Island

The rest of the week promises to be hot, humid and stormy. A huge meteor shower is also coming this week. We'll let you know when.

The National Weather Service says there will be chances of showers and thunderstorms on seven straight days – from Wednesday through next Tuesday. High daily temperatures will be in the upper 80s through the rest of the week. Those on the East End will get a slight reprieve from the heat, with highs in the low to mid-80s.

"While it will not be as hot as the heat wave from late July, humidity levels may be higher and will make the air feel very uncomfortable for some people," AccuWeather Long-Range Meteorologist Edward Vallee says.

The heat index (what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature) will likely reach the mid to upper-90s every day from Wednesday to Sunday.

If skies cooperate on Thursday night, you will want to be outside for the Perseid meteor shower peak, with up to 150 "shooting stars" possibly streaking across the sky.

The peak comes the night of Aug. 11 into the early morning hours of Friday, Aug. 12. The best views will come after 1 a.m. Friday when the moon has sets, says Astronomy magazine.
