Ward Melville HS 4x400m Team Takes 1st Place at Millrose Games
4x400m relay team races at prestigious international track event
The Millrose Games, in its 111th year, is a prestigious indoor track and field event that features Olympic and world champions, professionals, youth, clubs, masters and top high school athletes.
This year's event was held on Saturday, Feb 3, at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory, in Manhattan.
Coach Youngs's high school team, consisting of Samantha Sturgess, Samantha Rutt, Elizabeth Radke and Allyson Gaedje who ran the anchor leg, came in 1st ahead of Westhampton Beach, Sachem East, Uniondale, Manhasset and Freeport, in the Long Island girls 4x400m race, with a time of 3:57.84, besting their 2017 time by more than 6 seconds!

During this year's Games, the USA 4x800m relay team of Chrishuna Williams, Raevyn Rogers, Charlene Lipsey and Ajee’ Wilson established a new indoor world record in 8:05.89. The record was previously held by Russia since 2011.
