W.S. Mount Students, Staff Teamed up for Soup-er Bowl

Collected more than 550 non-perishable food items for local pantries.

W.S. Mount Elementary School students and staff got into the football spirit by participating in a two-week Soup-er Bowl food drive for local food pantries.

During the event, which was coordinated by the Site Based Management Team and several sixth-grade students, Mount collected more than 550 non-perishable food items. In the spirit of competition, the donors used their contributions to vote on which team they thought would win this year’s Super Bowl by placing the items on tables that were decorated with each team’s name.

To increase participation in the drive, Principal Kathryn White and Assistant to the Principal Brian McCarthy each supported one of the competitors and vowed to donate an additional 100 items if their team lost. Unlike the actual NFL game, Mr. McCarthy’s Seahawks edged out Mrs. White’s Patriots with a final total of 297 to 254 donations, respectively.
