Another Bank Robbed On The UWS After Note Passed To Teller: NYPD

The bank robbery Tuesday is the fifth attempt since the beginning of March on the UWS that involved a man passing a note to the teller.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A Wells Fargo on the Upper West Side was robbed Tuesday after a man passed a note to the teller demanding money, and fled the bank with the cash secured, according to police.

The robbery took place just before noon at the Wells Fargo location on 2416 Broadway, which is the corner of 89th Street and Broadway.

Police did not specify how much money the robber got away with.

The man was able to flee the bank, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The robbery on Tuesday was the sixth time since the beginning of March that somebody has tried to rob a bank on the Upper West Side.

Here are those robbery attempts:

  • March 30: Chase Bank at 2824 Broadway (Near 110th Street)
  • April 1: Chase Bank at 2099 Broadway (Near 73rd Street)
  • April 2: Capital One Bank at 175 West 72nd Street
  • April 2: Bank of America at 2077 Broadway (Near 72nd Street)
  • April 19: Chase Bank at 2824 Broadway (Near 110th Street)
  • May 11: Wells Fargo at 2416 Broadway (Near 88th Street)

All but one of these attempts included a man passing a note to the bank teller and demanding money, according to police.

On April 8, Derek Graves was arrested in connection to the first four Upper West Side bank robberies.

Police did not immediately respond about whether they thought the bank robberies were connected.
