UPPER WEST SIDE, NY ? A trio of colorful neighborhood legends are packing up their bags and going to live their fluffy golden years in Upstate New York.

Peacocks Harry, Jim, and Phil have lived in happy harmony on the grounds of The Cathedral of St. John The Divine at West 112th Street and Amsterdam Avenue for over 20 years.

The three peacocks were hatched in 2002, and have spent the last 21 years outside the Upper West Side church.

"Phil, Harry, and Jim have surpassed the typical age of wild peacocks," Council Member Gale Brewer's office wrote in an email. "In the hope of ensuring their continued safety and best quality of life, the Cathedral is partnering with Animal Nation, a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit wildlife sanctuary, to give the trio a happy and healthy retirement in South Salem, NY."

The church and community are honoring the peacocks with a final send off on Saturday.

There will be a Cathedral Carnival for Kids and Farewell to our Feathered Friends from noon to 4 p.m. outside of the church.

It will be a full afternoon of art workshops, face painting, storytelling, costume contests, and more.

The event will conclude with a ceremony for the three peacocks.

"As symbols of the Cathedral and The Cathedral School, the peacocks will always be part of the history and legacy of this Manhattan landmark, and discussions are underway about the possibility of a future flock of the beloved birds coming to the grounds," the Cathedral of St. John's The Divine said in a news release.

Peacocks have actually lived on the grounds of the Cathedral since 1972.

Susan Kirby created a video six years ago showing the beauty of the three retiring Upper West Side peacocks.
