Children's Museum Of Manhattan Set To Reopen Soon: What To Know

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The popular Children's Museum of Manhattan recently announced it is reopening in October after an extended closure of more than five months.

The Upper West Side museum will reopen to members on Oct. 1 and for all guests on Oct. 16.

The Children's Museum of Manhattan sits on 212 West 83rd Street.

After working with health advisers for months, the children's museum has created a socially-distanced museum experience that "encourages playful, in-person opportunities while maintaining social distancing protocols," according to a news release from the museum.

Families will be able to choose between two curated adventures led by educators from the museum. Either selection will bring you through the museum's exhibitions in a small group.

The curated visits will last one hour and 45 minutes.

Here are the new health and safety protocols that will get implemented at the Children's Museum of Manhattan.

• Contactless timed-ticket reservations and digital membership cards.
• Temperature checks at the entrance.
• Mask and social distancing requirements.
• Multiple daily cleanings and sanitization between timed group visits as well as new hand-sanitizer stations.

"We know the past six months have been a challenging time for all children and their caregivers. We hope our reopening offers a respite and welcome opportunity for safe, in-person engagement with the CMOM community," said Aileen Hefferren, CEO and director of the museum, in a news release.

The children's museum was established in 1973 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and it is planning an upcoming move to an expanded home at 361 Central Park West.
