Here's How COVID Rates Changed On The UWS During The Last Month
UWS ZIP codes have consistently had comparatively low COVID rates. But, how do the neighborhood's numbers in January compare to December?
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — As the end of January comes around, COVID-19 rates on the Upper West Side continue to remain disproportionately low compared to the rest of New York City.
However, much like the rest of the city, virus rates on the UWS have ticked up in the last month.
Specifically, the 10023 ZIP code has gone from the lowest rate of any ZIP code in New York City at 1.59 percent — to a rate over 3 percent.

Patch decided to take a look at the data for the week of Jan. 18 to 24 and compare it to Dec. 18 to 24, to see just how much rates on the Upper West Side have gone up in the past month.
Here is the full breakdown for the four ZIP codes on the Upper West Side between Jan. 18 and 24th.

- 10069 — Lower West End/Riverside: 400 people tested, 17 new cases, 4.25 percent positivity.
- 10023 — Lincoln Square: 3,072 people tested, 98 new cases, 3.19 percent
- 10024 — Upper West Side: 2,944 people tested, 90 new cases, 3.06 percent positivity.
- 10025 — Manhattan Valley/Morningside Heights/UWS: 5,882 people tested, 205 new cases, 3.49 percent positivity.
Here is that same breakdown for the four ZIP codes, but this time between Dec. 18 and 24th.
- 10069 — Lower West End/Riverside: 378 people tested, 11 new cases, 2.91 percent positivity.
- 10023 — Lincoln Square: 3,394 people tested, 54 new cases, 1.59 percent positivity.
- 10024 — Upper West Side: 3,258 people tested, 75 new cases, 2.3 percent positivity.
- 10025 — Manhattan Valley/Morningside Heights/UWS: 5,324 people tested, 111 new cases, 2.03 percent positivity.
The positive rates in all four ZIP codes have gone up over the past month.
The overall percent positive average on the Upper West Side has gone from 2.20 percent during the week of Dec. 18, to 3.49 percent during the week of Jan. 18.
The biggest jump in positivity rate was seen in the 10023 ZIP code, which saw its rate go from 1.59 percent to 3.19 percent. For the week of Dec. 18, the 10023 had the single lowest COVID-19 rate of any ZIP code in New York City.
