Man In Critical Condition After Getting Hit By Van On UWS: Police

A 36-year-old man was hit by a DHL van on the UWS just one day after a cyclist was killed in the neighborhood by a USPS truck.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A 36-year-old man is in critical condition after a DHL van hit him around 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday as he was walking across the street at Broadway and West 73rd Street, according to police.

The 27-year-old driver was taken into custody at the scene under suspicion of alcohol use, police said.

The man who got hit was walking eastbound on West 73rd Street when the van traveling southbound on Broadway struck him at the crosswalk, police added.

He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with head trauma and is in critical condition, an NYPD spokesperson told Patch.

The NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad is conducting an investigation.

The 36-year-old was hit by the van just one day after a cyclist was hit and killed by a United States Postal Service Truck at West 86th Street and Central Park West.
