UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — More than 66 percent of residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccines in two of the three zip codes covering the Upper West Side as health officials urge more people to get shots as New York City moves closer to fully reopening.
The most recent data from the New York City Department of Health comes a day after the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention announced that fully vaccinated people can go most places without face coverings regardless of the size of the gathering. As of Friday, more than 7.36 million doses of the vaccines have been administered to city residents, officials said.
In a tweet on Thursday, de Blasio called the CDC's announcement a "monumental day in the fight against COVID". He said that city officials are still reviewing guidance for masks, which the mayor will still be important for schools, public transportation and health care settings.
