New Upper West Side Target Is Finally Opening: What To Know

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The long-awaited Upper West Side Target location is finally set to open its doors.

The store at 1863 Broadway, between West 61st and 62nd Streets, will have its Grand Opening on Sunday, the company said Wednesday.

The UWS Target was initially supposed to open in the fall of 2019 — but it got pushed back into 2020 — before getting stalled even more due to the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, a second neighborhood Target, isn't far behind. The chain also signed a lease for a space at 795 Columbus Avenue.

The Target opening near Columbus Circle will open in a retail portion of AvalonBay's development at 1865 Broadway. The development is expected to contain 172 apartment units, according to plans filed with the city Department of Buildings.

Two other Target stores, in Hell's Kitchen and Staten Island, are also holding Grand Openings on Sunday. The three locations will create more than 350 jobs, the company says.

All three of the new Targets opened on Wednesday at a small scale in preparation for Sunday's Grand Openings.

Target has fared better than most retailers during the pandemic, reporting revenue growth and planning to open more than two dozen new stores before the end of the year, The Real Deal reported.
