In New York Modi from India Draws Protesters
Protesters gathered around Columbus Circle in New York City at an event Prime Minister Modi of India was attending September 24th
The Protesters rallied across the street from the Time Warner Building where a private event was being held that evening.
According to Al Jazeera reporting, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi revoked an article of India's constitution guaranteeing special rights to the Muslim-majority state On August 5th "including the right to its own constitution and autonomy to make laws on all matters except defence, communications and foreign affairs", and bolstered it up with thousands of troops, imposed "a crippling curfew, shut down telecommunications and internet, and arrested political leaders."
The protesters had a copy of the lawsuit asserting Modi, a fundamentalist Hindu, carried out "extrajudicial killings, causing wrongful death,battery, emotional distress , crimes against humanity upon Kashmiris. According to the protesters, Modi's treatment of the people of Kashmir have left,"8 milllion kashmiri with no open schools or hospitals"

One of the protesters said Punjab is seeking independence from India, and that the protesters were mainly Punjabi Sikhs. However, much of their complaint was about Modi's actions in Kashmir over recent months.
