UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The Spanish and Latin-Caribbean restaurant Tasca opened its door for the first time Thursday on the Upper West Side.

The eatery is inspired by the shared culinary histories of the Iberian Peninsula, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, and is run by longtime restaurateurs Jay and Norisa Espinal.

The duo is also the driving force behind the popular Upper East Side spot Don Pedro.

Tasca is opening at 505 Columbus Avenue on West 84th Street in a 5,500-square-foot property, which used to be the home to the Greek restaurant Kefi. The multilevel establishment seats 30 people outside and up to 65 customers indoors at 25 percent capacity.

The menu includes dishes such as cassava-crusted scallop, Caribbean vegetables, saffron and seafood soup, and duck magret over a tower of sofrito goat cheese and sweet plantains.

The new restaurant opening joins a string of eateries opening or reopening their doors on the Upper West Side.

Just this week, Effy's Cafe reopened in the neighborhood after saying it was permanently closing in May, and the week before, Pastrami Queen announced it would be opening a new location on the UWS by the end of November.
