Target At Columbus Circle Opening Next Month: Report

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — It looks like the long-awaited Target on the Upper West Side is finally set to open next month in the neighborhood.

A representative from Target told the news site ILoveTheUpperWestSide.com that the store would be opening at 1865 Broadway, between 61st and 62nd Streets, in October. However, the chain store didn't specify an exact date.

The UWS Target was initially supposed to open in the fall of 2019 — but it got pushed back into 2020 —before getting stalled even more due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Columbus Circle store will open in a retail portion of AvalonBay's development at 1865 Broadway. The development is expected to rise 416 feet tall and contain 172 apartment units, according to plans filed with the city Department of Buildings.

The Columbus Circle location will be the first Target on the Upper West Side, but a second store isn't far behind. The chain also recently signed a lease for a space at 795 Columbus Ave. Target signed a 15-year lease with the landlord for a 24,000 square foot space at the second location.

"We're excited to bring an easy, convenient shopping experience to new guests in these communities with the new Target stores," a Target spokesperson told Patch earlier in the summer about the new Columbus Avenue spot.
