An area on the Upper West Side has the lowest coronavirus rate of any ZIP code in New York City, according to city data.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A ZIP code on the Upper West Side has the single lowest coronavirus rate in New York City, according to the most recent data.
Despite most areas in the five boroughs seeing their coronavirus rates rise in the past couple of weeks, the positivity rate in one Upper West Side ZIP code is holding steady below 2 percent.
The data, which shows COVID-19 testing results for every New York City ZIP code between Dec. 18 and Dec. 24, reveals that the positivity rates in all four ZIP codes that make up the Upper West Side are relatively low.

Specifically, the 10023 ZIP code, which makes up most of the Lincoln Square area, has a positivity rate of 1.59 percent.
It is the lowest rate of any ZIP code in New York City.

The area is among a handful of ZIP codes in the five boroughs with a positivity rate under 2 percent.
Additionally, ZIP codes with the lowest rates in the city have generally been some of the smallest in their respective boroughs — this is not the case for 10023. The Upper West Side ZIP code is actually one of the bigger in Manhattan.
Here's the full breakdown for the 10023 ZIP code between Dec. 18 and Dec. 24:
- 3,394 people tested
- 54 new cases
- 1.59 percent positive
While the rest of the Upper West Side ZIP codes don't have rates quite as low as 10023, the entire neighborhood remains on the low end of figures seen throughout the city during the period.
- 10069 — Lower West End/Riverside: 378 people tested, 11 new cases, 2.91 percent positivity.
- 10024 — Upper West Side: 3,258 people tested, 75 new cases, 2.3 percent positivity.
- 10025 — Manhattan Valley/Morningside Heights/UWS: 5,324 people tested, 111 new cases, 2.03 percent positivity.
The 10069 ZIP code, which goes from West 59th Street to 72nd Street, from the west side of West End Avenue through Riverside Boulevard, has consistently registered the highest rates on the Upper West Side.
The New York City coronavirus rate hit 7 percent on Sunday, with 3,015 new cases throughout the five boroughs.
Both Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently warned of a spike in cases due to gatherings during the holiday season.
