In August, Citi Bike unveiled five new stations between West 179th and 183rd Streets in The Heights. Additionally, the bike-sharing company opened 12 new stations during the same period between West 151st and 173rd Streets.
The uptown location openings came on the heels of a 2019 study showing that Citi Bike's service area serves a largely white, affluent population while shutting out poor people of color.
The response to the possibility of more Citi Bike station opening above 184th Street was mixed throughout the different uptown community Facebook groups.
Some commenters were happy with the news, writing sentiments like "Yay, I'm so excited!" While other people weren't so excited to see more Citi Bike stations coming to the neighborhood.
"Putting those Citi Bikes in Inwood gonna get destroyed by crazy kids, also take up parking spots too, better put in around the park, not local street," a different commenter wrote.
