DOT To Unveil Street Improvement Plan For West 178th Street
Transportation officials will present their plan for West 178th Street between Ft. Washington and Wadsworth avenues at a meeting next week.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Residents will get the first peek next week at changes that will be coming to West 178th Street.
The Department of Transportation will be presenting its plans for safety improvements on the corridor at Community Board 12's Transportation Committee meeting on Monday, the department announced.
The street improvement plan will include changes from Ft. Washington Avenue to Wadsworth Avenue.

Officials said it will involve putting in safer pedestrian crossings, adding pedestrian space, making signal timing changes and better organizing the roadway.
The West 178th Street improvements are among several changes DOT is making in the neighborhood.

The department also recently announced that the rest of St. Nicholas Avenue's bike lane will be coming this year, from West 165th to West 170th streets. The bike lane plan comes with other changes to the streets, including creating 17 more parking spaces, shortening crosswalks, adding a southbound lane on Broadway and providing pedestrian paths where they were lacking, according to Transportation Committee minutes.
The presentation about West 178th Street and the rest of the committee's meeting will be held at 530 West 166th St. on the 6th floor at 7 p.m. on Monday.
