First Annual Dyckman Tree Lighting Ceremony: What To Know

Organizations in Inwood and Washington Heights are coming together to host the first-ever Dyckman Tree Lighting Ceremony.

UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — The holiday season is upon us, and the Upper Manhattan community is coming together for a new festive event.

The first annual Dyckman Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. on the corner of Dyckman Street between Broadway and Riverside.

The ceremony is organized in partnership with the Washington Heights Business Improvement District, the Inwood Merchants Association, the NYC Small Business Services Neighborhood 360 program, My Beauty Mark Foundation, and local shop owners.

"For years, there have been conversations about making this a reality on Dyckman, and it has finally come to fruition," Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez said in a news release. "We believe that this tree will be a beacon of hope and pride in our community."

The tree will stand in the neighborhood until Jan. 8, which is enough time to ensure all families who want to celebrate Three Kings Day.

Due to social distancing guidelines, the lighting ceremony won't be open to the public, but you can watch a livestream of the event on the Inwood Merchant Association Instagram page.
