Foot Locker Opens New Washington Heights 'Power Store'

The shoe retailer has brought its community-based "Power Store" concept to Washington Heights, offering both global and local brands.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Shoe retail giant Foot Locker opened its newest "Power Store" concept in Washington Heights over the weekend, drawing a crowd of sneakerheads to Upper Manhattan.

The new store, located in a 9,000-square-foot space at 605 W. 181st St. near St. Nicholas Avenue, is the sixth "Power Store" opened by the shoe seller through a partnership with Nike. The stores are much larger than the typical Foot Locker, offer a selection of curated local brands and have a greater emphasis on a community-based, experiential shopping experience.

"We're focused on creating immersive brand connections that are authentically tied to the
neighborhoods we serve. By partnering with Nike, we're able to offer our customers a seamless
and friction-less retail experience that will serve and engage the Washington Heights community
beyond traditional brick and mortar capabilities," Foot Locker executive Frank Bracken said in a statement.
