Giant Shamrock Painted In Inwood In Celebration Of St. Patrick's
For the second year in a row, a giant shamrock has been painted at the intersection of Broadway and West 207th Street.

INWOOD, NY — With St. Patrick's Day right around the corner, a group of local residents and restaurant owners over the weekend painted a giant green shamrock on an Inwood street.
It is the second year in a row that the clover is gracing the intersection of Broadway and 207th Street.

Last year, Inwood residents and business owners decided to start their own tradition of the Irish symbol in the neighborhood.

"We have seen neighboring communities, like Kingsbridge and Woodlawn paint shamrocks before and last year we thought we'd start our own tradition," Niall Henry, the owner of Tubby Hook Tavern in Inwood, told Patch. "Inwood at one point was a very Irish neighborhood in NYC. Today it is probably the most diverse neighborhood in NYC. Last night we had our staff and loyal customers help us with this project. We hope next year to grow this event, and keep the tradition going for years to come."
Henry and the other organizers of the shamrock painting also approved it with the 34th Precinct, who cleared off the area when the actual painting process took place.
