Inwood Man Sentenced To 20 Years In Prison For Fatal Stabbing In Brooklyn: Brooklyn DA
Ramon Escobar, 59, was sentenced Monday after he was convicted by jury of stabbing another man who bled out and died, the BK DA said.

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, BROOKLYN — A man from Inwood who stabbed another man to death in Williamsburg more than five years ago was sentenced on Monday to 20 years in prison by Acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, the Brooklyn DA's office said.
Ramon Escobar, 59, was convicted of first-degree manslaughter and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon by a jury for fatally stabbing 46-year-old David Fernandez in 2011. According to trial testimony, Escobar and Fernandez got into an argument in Williamsburg after Escobar accused Fernandez of "making inappropriate contact" with his girlfriend. The argument took place at the corner of South 9th and Roebling streets in Williamsburg on April 29, 2011, cops said. A witness said they heard Escobar say "I am going to kill him" before he was taken away from the argument.
According to evidence, Escobar then walked into the Crazy Loco 99 Cent store at 281 Broadway and bought two 8-inch kitchen knives. He went back to the scene of the argument, where he began fighting again with Fernandez, and he stabbed him in the left thigh. Escobar left a 6-inch wound that pierced the bone and severed major blood vessels, including the femoral artery and vein, causing Fernandez to bleed out and die, cops said.

"The victim was a loving father, just one week from walking his daughter down the aisle at her wedding," Gonzalez said. "He had the great misfortune to encounter this defendant, who stabbed him to death after a meaningless argument. The defendant’s taking of human life over something so trivial is unconscionable, and we are all well served by the lengthy sentence imposed today."
