Man Shot In The Head And Killed On Dyckman Street: Police

The man found dead in Inwood early on Monday wasn't the only recent tragic Northern Manhattan killing that police announced this morning.

UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — A man was shot in the head and killed just before 5 a.m. Monday on Dyckman Street in Northern Manhattan, according to police.

Police responded to reports of shots fired at 4:48 a.m. in front of 176 Dyckman Street.

NYPD officers arrived to find a 34-year-old man unresponsive in the driver's seat of a black BMW with a gunshot wound to the head, according to police.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second person, 33, was also shot in the groin within the car and transported to a hospital in stable condition, police said.

There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Dyckman shooting wasn’t the only troubling Northern Manhattan incident announced Monday morning by the NYPD.

On June 14, at 7 a.m., Maria Kelly, 49, was hit in the head with a crowbar on the corner of Fort Washington Avenue and West 163rd Street, according to police. She was taken to Columbia Presbyterian where she died five days later, according to police.

After an investigation, 63-year-old Julio Aponte was arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault, according to police.

According to the New York Post, Aponte and Kelly were married, and directly after the sickening assault, he called 911 saying that he killed his wife because she was unfaithful.
