Memorial To Inwood Resident And His Dog Defaced By Spray Paint
An Upper Manhattan Facebook group shared a photo Tuesday of a memorial to a longtime Inwood resident that had been spray-painted over.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Mark and his small white dog were a staple of Inwood for years and, after he passed away in May of 2020, a neighbor put up a memorial to the long-time Upper Manhattan resident on the corner of 207th Street and Broadway across from the A train station.
The message on the memorial reads:
"Mark passed away on May 2, 2020, in his Inwood home. He leaves behind his faithful companion, Blackie, who is safe with a foster. They were often seen together at this spot. Rest easy, neighbor."

While the timeline isn't exact, the memorial was tagged over with black spray paint at some point over the past year.

The photo of the ruined poster was posted on a popular Upper Manhattan Facebook page on Tuesday — sparking a collection of angry messages about the choice to deface the memorial.

"Why do people do these horrible things? Sad," one neighbor wrote on the community page.
An Upper Manhattan resident commented on the thread that the memorial was ruined months ago. Despite the spray paint not happening recently, you can still find the defaced memorial on the Inwood street.
