WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A new Popeyes location is on its way to St. Nicholas Avenue, the third for the chicken chain in the neighborhood, according to a sign on the building.

A "Coming Soon" sign with the Louisiana chicken chain's logo has been added above a grocery store at 1406 St. Nicholas Ave., which appears to be closed.

The store, called La Placita de Washington Heights, sits between West 180th and West 181st streets.

Popeyes did not immediately respond to a request for comment or confirmation about the new location. City records show that architects applied to renovate the property in December.

Should it open as a Popeyes, the 1406 St. Nicholas Ave. location would become the third for the chicken chain in the neighborhood, including another along St. Nicholas Avenue not far from the new spot.

That location, found on the corner of the thoroughfare, is at 601 West 172nd St. The third is found in the northern section of the neighborhood at 601 West 191st Street.

In all, Popeyes has 15 of its restaurants currently open in New York City.
