The lower COVID-19 positivity rate in the 10040 ZIP code is particularly smile-inducing to see as the Inwood enclave consistently registered the highest rate in Manhattan. At the end of February, the 10040 ZIP code was the only ZIP code in the borough to have a one-week virus positivity rate of over 10 percent.
The COVID-19 positivity rates didn't drop under 7 percent in the two ZIP codes until the middle of March. To give perspective on the sub 0.5 percent rates currently seen in Inwood during June, the seven-day positivity average from March 9 through 15 in the 10034 ZIP code was 6.45 percent and 10040's was 6.14 percent.
The current COVID-19 rates are the lowest seen in Inwood since the city began tracking the data by ZIP code in the fall of 2020.
