Third Of Upper Manhattan Now Vaccinated As COVID-19 Rate Drops

The COVID-19 rate in Wash Heights and Inwood is under 6 percent as over a third of residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — The COVID-19 positive rate within Washington Heights and Inwood continues to trend downward as the vaccination rate climbs.

The most recent seven-day COVID-19 positive average for the four ZIP codes that make up Upper Manhattan is 5.56 percent — still one of the highest figures in Manhattan but the first time in months that the rate has collectively been under 6 percent.

The positive rate in Upper Manhattan dropping under 6 percent corresponds with another smile-inducing milestone.

Over 35 percent of Washington Heights and Inwood residents have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 24 percent of community members are fully vaccinated, according to data from the city.

Latest 7-Day COVID-19 Positive Rates For Upper Manhattan

  • 10034: 6.59 percent, 83 new positives, 1,258 people tested
  • 10040: 5.82 percent, 66 new positives, 1,134 people tested
  • 10033: 4.6 percent, 83 new positives, 1,806 people tested
  • 10032: 5.22 percent, 120 new positives, 2,301 people tested

Latest Vaccination Information For Upper Manhattan

  • 10034: 34 percent first dose received, 22 percent fully vaccinated
  • 10040: 36 percent first dose received, 25 percent fully vaccinated
  • 10033: 35 percent first dose received, 24 percent fully vaccinated
  • 10032: 38 percent first dose received, 26 percent fully vaccinated

In total, 36 percent of Upper Manhattan adult residents have gotten their first dose of the vaccine, and 24 percent of the community is now fully vaccinated.

While it is good to see the vaccine rate rise in Washington Heights and Inwood, the 36 percent figure still trails most other Manhattan neighborhoods in the percentage of residents vaccinated. For example, ZIP codes on the Upper West Side and Upper East Side have over 50 percent of residents with at least one dose of the vaccine.

The number of vaccinations is expected to rise quickly as New Yorkers over the age of 16 can get vaccines as of Tuesday.
