Upper Manhattan COVID-19 Rate Falls Below 4 Percent: A Breakdown

Almost exactly two months ago the Upper Manhattan ZIP codes had a COVID-19 rate of 8.17 percent. The rate has now fallen under 4 percent.

UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — The COVID-19 seven-day average rate in the four ZIP codes that make up Washington Heights and Inwood continues to trend downward as the vaccination rate climbs.

On Feb. 22, the average seven-day COVID-19 rate of the 10040, 10034, 10033, and 10032 ZIP codes was 8.17 percent — the highest of any neighborhood in Manhattan.

In the two months since that same virus rate for Upper Manhattan has dropped by more than half its value. As of Tuesday, the average seven-day COVID-19 rate of the four ZIP codes was 3.60 percent.

While the figure is still higher than many other parts of the borough, rates in areas of Lower Manhattan and Harlem have now passed Washington Heights and Inwood.

Corresponding with the lowering COVID-19 rate in Upper Manhattan, the vaccination rate has also continued to tick up in the past month.

The average first-shot vaccine rate in the four Washington Heights and Inwood ZIP codes is 46.25 percent as of Tuesday, with 32 percent of residents fully vaccinated.

The 46.25 percent first shot vaccination rate is similar to other areas above Morningside Heights in Manhattan, but almost all of the ZIP codes in the borough under that neighborhood have first-shot rates above 60 percent.

  • 3.18 percent COVID-19 rate, 1,288 people tested, 41 new cases
  • 44 percent of residents have gotten the first dose, 30 percent are fully vaccinated

  • 3.96 percent COVID-19 rate, 1,287 people tested, 51 new cases
  • 47 percent of residents have gotten the first dose, 33 percent are fully vaccinated

10033

  • 3.16 percent COVID-19 rate, 1,868 people tested, 59 new cases
  • 46 percent of residents have gotten the first dose, 31 percent are fully vaccinated

10032

  • 4.11 percent COVID-19 rate, 2,066 people tested, 85 new cases
  • 48 percent of residents have gotten the first dose, 34 percent are fully vaccinated
