Uptown Nabe Has Manhattan's Only COVID-19 Rate Over 10 Percent
A ZIP code containing parts of Washington Height and Inwood is the only one in Manhattan that still has a COVID-19 rate of over 10 percent.

UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — Since the city began tracking COVID-19 rates by ZIP code, one Upper Manhattan area has consistently topped the list of highest seven-day positive numbers in the borough.
The 10040 ZIP code.
The area makes up the northern part of Washington Heights and the southern section of Inwood.

According to the latest data from the city, it is the only ZIP code in Manhattan that still has a seven-day positive rate of over 10 percent.
For the week of Feb. 12 through 18, the 10040 ZIP code had a 10.52 percent positive rate, with 1,264 residents getting tested and 133 new positive cases.

It is the highest rate in Manhattan by over 1 percent, and if you eliminate other ZIP codes in Washington Heights or Inwood — it is 3 percent higher than the following highest ZIP code in Manhattan.
Here are the latest seven-day positive rates for the three other ZIP codes in Upper Manhattan.
- 10034 (Inwood): 8.96 percent positive, 1,138 people tested, 102 new positives
- 10033 (Washington Heights): 6.66 percent positive, 1,771 people tested, 118 new positives
- 10032 (Washington Heights South): 6.54 percent positive, 2,124 people tested, 139 new positives
The Upper Manhattan numbers compare to a 2.99 percent seven-day positive average in New York state as of Sunday. It is the first time the New York rate has been under 3 percent since late November.
However, the positive rate in New York City is much higher.
The seven-day positivity rate across the five boroughs is 7.31 percent, which is actually higher than two of the Upper Manhattan ZIP codes. While this figure is still higher than the state's seven-day average, it has also fallen since the beginning of January, when the city's average was over 9 percent.
With that being said, the seven-day averages in Manhattan are much lower than the other four boroughs. Many of Manhattan's ZIP codes have seven-day positive averages of under 4 percent.
