Uptown Arts Stroll Launches 2019 Poster Design Contest

Artists from West Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood can win $1,250 and have their design featured on promotional materials.

UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — One of Upper Manhattan's premier cultural events is seeking submissions for its annual poster design contest.

Artists from Inwood, Washington Heights and West Harlem can submit their designs for the Uptown Arts Stroll poster until Feb. 25, according to the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance. Contest winners will receive a $1,250 prize and their artwork will be featured on promotional materials for the annual event.

Runners up will also receive prizes this year, with $500 going to the second-place designer and $250 going to the third-place designer. Artists must live within the confines of West 135th Street to West 155th Street between St. Nicholas Avenue and the Hudson River or anywhere in Manhattan north of West 155th Street to be eligible for the contest.

Artists may only submit one design for consideration, according to the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance. The organization is looking for "eye-catching, original and unpublished images which highlight the unique characteristics of Northern Manhattan," according to the organization.

Designs must be large enough to be printed in an 11 by 17 inch poster format, according to the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance. A panel of local artists will judge all the submissions and select a winner. The designs must also feature the phrase "2019 Uptown Arts Stroll // Paseo de las Artes."

The Uptown Arts Stroll is a multi-day showcase that features events such as open mics, concerts, open studio tours and art classes.
