Uptown Summer Jazz Series Bringing Latin Tunes To Wash Heights

The third installation of the virtual jazz series will take place on Saturday with the Fernando Garcia Band.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Live music might still be on hold in New York City due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the Uptown Summer Jazz Series is doing its best to bring groovy tunes to the Washington Heights community.

You can enjoy the music of the Fernando Garcia Band from the comfort of your own home, or outside the FireBall restaurant, where the virtual performance will be livestreamed on its in-house TVs.

The restaurant is located at 3920 Broadway (164th Street) in Washington Heights, and is open for outdoor dining and take out.

Fernando Garcia is a Puerto Rico native and New York City resident, who blends folkloric bomba rhythms and jazz.

The summer jazz series is running every Saturday through Aug. 22, and is organized by the Community League of Heights (CLOTH) and Jazz WaHi Inc.

CLOTH is a "community development corporation dedicated to building equitable, prosperous and healthy northern Manhattan neighborhoods," according to its Facebook page.

Jazz WaHi is a non-profit corporation that promotes jazz performance and music in Washington Heights.
