Wash Heights Street To Get Co-Named In Honor Of Healthcare Heroes
168th Street between Broadway and Fort Washington will be co-named "Healthcare Heroes Way" on Friday by CM Ydanis Rodriguez and CB 12.
WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Washington Heights is getting a new street name, and it is in honor of healthcare workers who took on the coronavirus within the initial epicenter of the pandemic in the United States.
Under the provision of Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez and Upper Manhattan's Community Board 12, 168th Street between Broadway and Fort Washington Avenue will be co-named as "Healthcare Heroes Way."
The ceremony will take place on the southwest corner of West 168th Street and Broadway at noon on Friday.

Not only did the vast workforce at New York-Presbyterian / Columbia University Irving Medical Center take on a critical role in the healthcare response to coronavirus, but Washington Heights and Inwood are home to more frontline workers than any neighborhood in Manhattan, according to city data.
"To honor and continue to support the thousands of dedicated medical and nursing professionals, EMTs, social workers, administrators, custodial and food service staff, volunteers, and others vital to the continuity of care during our City's darkest hour, W. 168th Street, between Broadway and Fort Washington Avenue, will be co-named as Healthcare Heroes Way," reads a news release from Rodriguez's office.
