Election Day in Washington Heights-Inwood: Wait Times, Broken Scanners, Crazy People and More

There were a handful of problems across Washington Heights with long lines and broken scanners.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — There was plenty of support for Hillary Clinton in northern Manhattan on Election Day.

Washington Heights resident Jonathan Arons said he had no hesitation voting for Clinton: "Hillary, straight blue."

"Really just I like her take on the Supreme Court, she is pro family and education and you know basically everybody that seems to be oppressed she wants to help out," Arons said. "I know it’s a super blankety statement but that’s what I’ve been fed and that’s what I believe."

Even tepid support for Clinton outweighed that of Trump.

"She wasn’t my ideal candidate, but between the two she is a much better choice than Donald Trump," 20-year-old Washington Heights resident Neil Stafford said. "A lot of people that I have spoken to that are around my age have said the same thing. She has her flaws but when you have to pick between the two it’s the lesser of two evils.

"I don't know a lot of people my age who would consider voting with Donald Trump."

There were a number of long lines in Inwood as well on Tuesday morning. A long line formed at Broadway and Academy Street as people queued up to vote at 9 a.m.

As usual on Election Day, there were a handful of problems as voters headed to the polls.

There were long lines at 90 Bennett Ave. between 184th Street and 186th Street.

But there were plenty of spots in Washington Heights where you could vote with no problems at all, including P.S. 48 near 186th Street.

A Trump supporter in Inwood even took a moment to celebrate one Hillary vote slipping away from a long line at 6:20 a.m.
