Barbuto To Close After 15 Years In The West Village
Barbuto will close at the end of May after 15 years in the West Village.
WEST VILLAGE, NY — After 15 years in the West Village, Barbuto will close at the end of May, the neighborhood eatery said on Instagram.
The restaurant has become a fixture in the neighborhood after it took over a former garage space on a West Village corner at 775 Washington St. in 2004.
"After a wonderful 15 years we will be closing our doors at the end of May," according to the restaurant's Instagram. "Thank you to all of our amazing staff who have been essential in making Barbuto what it is today. Thank you to all of [our] patrons who have wined and dined with us over the years. We look forward to celebrating with all of you!"

Barbuto's chef Jonathan Waxman told the New York Times his lease ran out at the end of the year, and the building's owners no longer want a restaurant in the space.
"Barbuto was more than a success," Waxman told the Times. "I regard it as the crowning glory of my career."

But Waxman is looking for a silver living, he told the Times. By the end of the year, he hopes to re-open Barbuto at another location in the neighborhood, the Times wrote.
