Cops Nab Woman They Say Tried (And Failed) To Rob 90-Year-Old Near Union Square
Months later, the suspect has finally been charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of assault.
UNION SQUARE, NY — A Bronx woman was arrested and charged Monday more than two months after police say she assaulted and tried unsuccessfully to rob a 90-year-old woman in broad daylight near Union Square.
The alleged attacker, 49-year-old Lillian Maduro, walked up to the elderly woman near Fifth Avenue and West 12th Street (intersection pictured above) at noon on Sept. 27, police said, and tried grabbing her bag.
But the woman fought back, the NYPD said, and was knocked to the ground while she continued to fight for the bag. Maduro fled when she was unable to steal it, police said.
