David Bowie Tribute Takes Over NoHo Subway Station
A tribute to the music icon appeared at the station on the anniversary of Bowie's death Friday.

NOHO, MANHATTAN — A surprise destination appeared for straphangers boarding in NoHo on Friday.
A tribute to music icon David Bowie on the anniversary of his death invited riders at the Broadway-Lafayette Street station to travel to "Station Bowie" instead.
The tribute turned the normal "B, D, F, M, 6" train markers on the station sign into "B, O, W, I E and 4," making it so the sign read "Broadway-Lafayette St. Station To Station BOWIE 4."

The "4" likely referred to the four years since the New York City resident and late artist's death. David Bowie died at his home on Lafayette Street on January 10, 2016, two days after his 69th birthday.

The mystery tribute was spotted by East Village blogger EV Grieve, who told Patch they weren't sure who set up the new sign.

"Sorry to say I don’t know who did the tribute," EV Grieve wrote. "I like it though!"
The addition of "Bowie Station" isn't the first time the Broadway-Lafayette stop had been turned into a tribute for the icon since his death.
Back in 2018, fans of Bowie flocked to Broadway-Lafayette and Bleecker Street stations to pick up a limited edition MetroCard featuring images of the late artist from an exhibit about this at the Brooklyn Museum.
The cards, created by Spotify, were launched along with a "subway takeover" of the Broadway-Lafayette Street station featuring Bowie-inspired art.
